What is commercial use of a photograph? How is it different from "personal" use?
Commercial use is any use that brings value to the person or organization displaying the photograph to the public. Commercial usage includes publication in newsletters, brochures, flyers, photocopied handouts and any Web site or e-mail distribution. Commercial usage also applies to non-profit organizations, academic institutions or individuals who use a photograph in this manner.

Personal use means that you are buying the image for your own personal enjoyment and it will not be reproduced, sold, published, distributed, or utilized in any other manner.

What if I want to use a photograph commercially?
Commercial usage must be approved by the paper. There are many cases when usage will be denied. For example, photos for any type of advocacy publication (political flyers or brochures), since such usage may imply endorsement of a particular position by the paper. Contact the publication or organization directly for commercial use of a photograph.
Can I use a photo on my Web site?
Not without permission from the paper. This is considered commercial use. Contact the publication or organization directly for commercial use of a photograph.
I'm having trouble logging in. What do I do?
If you've never ordered prints from Pictopia before, you must register. Please click on the link "click here to register" and fill in a login name, password, and your email address. If you've ordered before, just enter your login name and password on the login screen.
What if I don't remember my password?
Enter your e-mail address: and then click here and your login and password information will be immediately sent to you.
Why does the photo appear blurry on my screen? Will the print be that way?
Occasionally, the digital file we get for displaying a new photo on screen is very small. When we enlarge it for display on the ordering screens it can appear blurry. However, once an order is placed for a photo, we obtain a high-resolution digital file of that photo for printing at the maximum resolution possible. If you are not completely satisfied with the final product, you may return it for a refund or exchange. See our Return Policy below.
Why is there faint writing across the photo on my screen? Will the print be that way?
Some photos are displayed with a "watermark" that appears as semi-transparent text or logo graphics on the photo. This is added to prevent unauthorized use of the image. Purchased prints do not have such a watermark.
How do Pictopia prints compare to large format inkjet prints?
Pictopia produces true photographic prints. Since we print on photographic paper exposed by light, rather than ink sprayed on paper (inkjet prints), our prints will look sharper and more realistic. Our printers print at 300 ppi continuous tone, which is equal to a resolution of 4000 dpi on an inkjet.
Please tell me more about framing!

Pictopia offers two grades of framing. To provide the greatest longevity and most stable environment for your photographs, we offer conservation-grade matting and framing at a reasonable price. Our Custom Frames are made with high-quality metal and wood molding, acid-free museum board for the mat window, and archival materials for corners, hinges and backing.

Frames and mats are custom cut to match the original photograph. The photograph will entirely fill the mat window. The photograph will always match the print size in the longest dimension (the stated print size, e.g., "10-inch print") and vary in the other dimension depending on the ratio of its height and width.

We also offer Standard Frames for photographs and posters in traditional sizes and dimensions only. The most common are 5x7, 8x10, 11x14 and 16x20 inch prints. Prints that are matted include up to 2 inches of mat around the print. our Standard Frames are designed to deliver value, convenience and quality.

Depending on its type and style, the frame will add between one-quarter inch and an inch and three-quarters on each side to the total dimension of the final framed print. See the size details under the photo of your choice for precise measurements of the final framed print.

How are prints shipped?

Unframed prints are usually shipped by US Mail. Prints up to 14 inches in size are shipped flat. Larger unframed prints are rolled and shipped in mailing tubes.

Framed prints are shipped by FedEx Ground. FedEx will not deliver to a P.O. box, and we do not recommend it for unframed prints either, due to the likelihood of damage occurring.

International Orders: Most orders outside the United States are shipped by FedEx International Economy. Some orders from Canada and United Kingdom are produced and shipped domestically. For questions about shipments to outside of the U.S., please contact Customer Service.

How soon will I get my prints?
Unframed prints ship within 5 business days.

Framed prints ship within 10 business days.

Additional delivery time depends on your selected shipping level. Estimated transit times for available shipping levels are:

  • Standard Shipping: Framed in 3-7 business days, unframed in 7-10 business days.
  • FedEx Express Saver: 3 business days
  • FedEx Overnight: 1 business day
What are "digital downloads"?
This purchase option allows you to download a high-resolution digital file suitable for making a print. After purchase, you will recieve an email with a link to download the file directly to your desktop. NOTE: Not all Pictopia photo stores make their images available for purchase as digital downloads. Also, some photo stores make make only a portion of their photos available for download. Note also that due to the nature of digital products they are not subject to refunds or credit.

How do I order a digital download?
  1. Choose the image(s) you'd like to order and under "Product Options," click on the "Digital Downloads" option. To order, click "Add to Cart."
  2. To order multiple images, repeat step 1.
  3. To checkout, click "Checkout" - if you don't immediately see this button, look toward the bottom of our left navigation bar.
  4. Enter your login and password or register to create new account.
  5. Complete the prompted steps for checkout.
Where are the prices of the photos displayed?
Clicking on the "Purchase this Photo" button under any particular photo brings up a window that displays pricing information and other available ordering options for that photo. You can view this information without obligating yourself to purchase anything. When you decide you wish to purchase something you can then select the item, add it to your cart, and proceed through the rest of the checkout process.
Where do I enter my discount code?
To activate a valid promotional code and receive a discount on your order proceed through to the checkout page. The table at the top of this page shows your grand total including tax and shipping. It includes a box into which you can enter a code. Your new total and amount of discount will be instantly displayed. If you decide to go back and do more shopping, eligible items will be discounted in your shopping cart.
How do I pay for the photos?
All payments are by credit card. A charge by Pictopia.com will appear on your credit card statement.
We accept VISA, MasterCard, and Discover.
How secure is my credit card information?
Our credit card processing is done via a 2-stage encryption to Chase Paymentech. All encryption is 256-1024 bits RSA keys (nearly impossible to crack) Further, credit card CVV (the three digit code on the back of the card) is never stored on the Pictopia servers. Credit Card information and passwords are stored in encrypted form. No data is visible to the internet and is protected by a 3-layer firewall.
Pictopia has successfully passed VISA/MasterCard and Discover cards' security intrusion tests.
Can I check on the status of my orders?
At any time, you can go to the Pictopia.com web site at http://www.pictopia.com, login using the same login and password and you can see what you've ordered and review its status.
What if I am unhappy with the prints for some reason?
RETURN POLICY Our return policy reflects our commitment to your satisfaction. If you are not fully satisfied with your purchase for any reason other than damage, you may return it within 30 days of receiving it to our Customer Service Department. We will happily refund you the original purchase price, excluding shipping and handling charges.

Due to the nature of digital products they are not subject to refunds or credit.

Requests for returns due to shipping damage must be made within three (3) days of receipt of your order. We pack prints carefully, but photos are delicate, and accidents do happen. It is always a good idea to inspect your order soon after it arrives and to let us know right away about any damage that occurred in shipment. Be sure to handle your print carefully and avoid touching the surface. Also, note that we cannot be responsible for prints damaged during framing or mounting you may do.

RETURN PROCEDURE Returns not made in compliance with this procedure will not obligate Pictopia in any way.

Call our Customer Service Department at 800-390-7269 or email us at customerservice@pictopia.com. A Customer Service Representative will help you to achieve a satisfactory resolution to your problem. If that includes returning your print(s) for credit or exchange, we will issue you a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number at that time. All returned items must have an RMA number to be properly credited.

Once the returned item is received and inspected, we will issue your refund or ship your replacement, as specified by the RMA. If the original payment was made by credit card, your credit card account will be credited. Please allow one billing cycle for credits to appear on your credit card statement.
