Pictopia's production environment combines a series of Unix and Linux servers both at a co-location facility and in-house. Points of redundancy assure continued operation of partner Photo Store e-commerce sites and backend photographic production.
Photographic Production - Pictopia uses state-of-the-art digital photo enlargers that produce archival silver-halide photo prints with an apparent resolution of 4000 dots per inch, yielding a sharpness and color gamut unavailable with traditional film-exposure or digital inkjet printing technologies. Pictopia performs all photographic production in-house. Standard framing is also performed in-house and custom framing is outsourced to nearby wholesale framers.
Image Handling - Pictopia fully automates the image file handling - uploading, storage, and processing. The Company's software automatically sharpens and enhances images prior to printing to ensure the maximum, highest quality of any size photographic print (from 8x10 to large format prints) - regardless of the size of the original. Additional color management technology ensures exact duplication, making possible editioned-prints-on-demand if desired by a Pictopia partner.
Accounting/Workflow - Pictopia's accounting software processes credit card payments and allows the use of open accounts. The system tracks an image as it flows through the imaging process, generating framing work orders, invoices, packing slips, and other information. Pictopia immediately gets its fees for the printing and shipping/handling, and in accordance with its contractual obligations, generates the payments for the image rights owners.
Data Aggregation and Analysis - Pictopia's online e-commerce system collects and organizes all customer data in real time. The data is presented in a fashion for casual analysis, verification, etc. and importation in to Microsoft Excel for further analysis. The collected customer data can also be imported into any CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system. Pictopia's web-based system also provides several baseline statistical analyses to administrators with graphic displays like bar charts of daily sales, histograms of top-selling images, etc.
Customer Care/Incident-Management and Tracking - Pictopia has created and operates a comprehensive customer-care incident and resolution tracking system. This system was created to ensure that no customer issue is lost or ignored.
